This year’s Winter Campout will be held on January 17-19 at Camp Y-Noah in Clinton, OH, which is about a 45-minute drive just short of Canton. The Friday night activities will include our annual Chili Cookoff, with pizza provided for kids or those who choose not to partake in sampling our fine chili entries. For those of you who bring chili entries, please bring them in a Crock-Pot (I prefer using a disposable liner as well) and try to get there early enough to be sure to warm it through. Tribe chiefs – see if you are able to coordinate at least 1 entry per tribe to try to earn some bragging rights and possibly defeat the 2019 champion Jeremy Daum! We will try to start the chili and pizza festivities around 7 PM.
Christmas at Camp Y-Noah – Dads, here’s an excuse to get the decorations out of your yard before Easter!!! Bring them to the Winter Campout and decorate the outside of your cabin for judging on Saturday night. A specially designed patch will go to all residents of the most remarkable cabin that were involved in the decorating. Don’t forget your extension cords!
On Saturday, horseback riding, pony rides, archery, bb guns, floor hockey and crafts are some of the activities that are being scheduled. If weather permits, Camp Y-Noah has two main hill areas that are perfect for sledding all day and NIGHT! Please be sure to bring your sleds, and NO METAL RUNNERS ARE ALLOWED ON SLEDS!
Saturday evening will conclude with our world famous torch march, bonfire and tribe skits. Remember to bring your torch with wick (cotton rag) and have a tribe chant ready in order for the medicine man to light your tribe’s torches. Need tribe change ideas ask the Medicine Man TomaHawk. Dads, encourage your kids to come up with a skit for Saturday night, it is great if we can get each tribe up on stage. You can get some skit ideas here.
Horse ride information: Horse rides will be $20 per rider and open to those who are 8 years of age or older. Dependent on the weather horse rides will be either trail rides or riding lessons in the indoor barn. For those of you who may have children under age 8, pony rides will be available for $5. Sign-ups will take place during the campout registration Friday evening. If there is further information on horse rides prior to the campout, I will advise in one of the pre-campout reminder emails.
Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis. The deadline for signup is January 12th. It’s shaping up to be a great time for all, so don’t wait until the last minute to sign up. Personally, when I first decided to go to Winter Campout my first year, I thought it would be a tougher campout with clothes changes, etc. – but it has become a favorite of mine and my kids over the years! If you have any questions about campout, please do not hesitate to email me, provided below. Remember there is no bad weather just bad clothes.
Upon arrival at Camp Y-Noah, all campers must check in at the main lodge Friday evening. After check-in, you can drive to your assigned cabin. After unloading your items your car will need to be returned to the main parking lot.
As a reminder overnight CVNSND events are for children K-8th grade.
Some quick safety updates:
We will take precautions to ensure sledding hills are clear of obstacles. We could use your help by reminding kids:
- Make sure their path is clear of other children.
- Do not build any ramps or walls at the bottom of the hill.
- No sleds with metal runners.
Children are NOT permitted to bring/carry pocket knives to camp.
We’ve been advised that it’s a liability issue. Dads, feel free to bring and carry yours. Kids seen with carrying anything with a blade (Swiss Army knives, multitools, etc.) will be subject to removal from the campout. We do not want to lessen the fun but need to make sure children come back home safely.
