A traditional favorite, this year’s Annual CVNSND Rocket Launch will be held on Sunday, October 6th at the Pavilion at “The Fields” sports complex in Broadview Heights. The Fields are located on Broadview Road, just 1⁄2 mile north of Route 82, at the intersection of Broadview and Royalwood Road. The pavilion is located next to / behind the tennis courts. Registration of rockets will begin at noon, and there is a $5 entry fee per rocket.

First launch is scheduled for around 1:00 pm. Prizes will be awarded for best style in each age group. You can pick up a rocket kit at a local hobby shop, craft store or on-line retailer (See more tips below). Rockets must be single stage and designed to accept an A or B engines. A or B engine sizes will be provided by the Longhouse at the event, so there is no need to buy an engine for the rocket. Just be sure to bring an assembled rocket.

This event promises to be a great introduction to our organization for the new members and their families as we begin to create memories together. This is a family event with Pathfinders welcome.

The Rocket Launch / Induction is a great way to put your 2019-2020 program year into orbit! We look forward to seeing you there.

ADDITIONAL TIPS FROM A ROCKETEER:

(Mentions do not imply endorsement)

Don’t break the bank on a rocket. You may not get it back. Northeast Ohio weather can make flight patterns erratic.

We are no longer permitting younger siblings to be strapped to rockets.

Estes brand kits are tried and true and the instructions are more pictograms than written text.

Semroc kits tend to have more detail and better instructions than the Estes.

You may want to start building your rocket prior to the the night before the launch so the fins have time to dry.

The local hobby shops stock some kits, but not a great selection.  All the vendors below ship promptly.

Some places to buy rockets online:

Amazon.com

https://www.siriusrocketry.biz/ishop/  Good selection of rockets.  Consider Estes or Semroc for a more detailed build.

https://www.apogeerockets.com/  More mid and high power selections, but some interesting designs not found anywhere else

http://www.erockets.biz/  Large assortment from many different makers
